The organisers behind the annual Santa Dash – where students chase after Father Christmas in a bid to win presents – wanted to put together a teaser video to be seeded on social channels to increase interest in the event.

Working with members of Internal Communications and Active Students, we wanted to show Santa training. I suggested a full Rocky-esque montage, complete with a festive-twist on the famous theme.

The action was storyboarded, then filmed sequentially using the University of Hertfordshire based Sports Village.

A majority of the content was filmed on an iPhone 6s, with secondary footage shot on a Canon EOS70D.

Prior to editing, I ‘parodied’ the Rocky theme in Garageband to ascertain runtime, then used Adobe Premiere Pro CC to cut it together.

The ‘fairy dust’ effect was created from scratch in Adobe After Effects using the Particle plugin.

The video was shared on social channels and embedded on the University website, and received strong engagement.
